I don't really see the problem there. Amarok's image are blue, not black. And the animal and the way it is drawn is different. One plus for 23, 24 and Led Zepps image. I also think that Mozenraths imgage are nice, but there is something abotu the colours I think. I guess there is something with the colour of the bird or the combination between the colour of the bird and the moon.

To my mind, an animal which is watching the sky and barking at the moon (with it behind) can make people think to Amarok.
LedZepp89's image is a good start, but needs to be improved, especially about the details. However, it is a good thing to get the Purple Rain feather colors. The link beetween Songbird and Nightingale can be clearly seen. Personally, I prefer #22 color theme, but it is just a question of taste (and nightingales are brown).

I think the moon in the background is a nice addition... If you get rid of the moon, it becomes a bird. This way, even if you don't know it's supposed to be a nightingale, you can see the link between the logo and the program name.

I will agree that it does somewhat resemble Amarok's logo, but (perhaps due to bias) I don't think it looks similar enough to confuse the two. Besides, I don't know what the term "Amarok" (or the program) has to do with wolves or moons.

I don't think it looks so similar to the Amarok logo that it will be confused.

Ezekiel: Thanks for the link... now it makes sense. Still, I agree, I don't think similarity is such that we should be concerned.

What do you think?

I love your mockup. I will also give a thumbs up on that one. And it shouldn't be too hard to make a logo like that one.

As for being too similar to Amarok, that's not too big of a deal as far as I'm concerned. Amarok has lost a lot of popularity in the last couple of years and it might help draw people in if they think of Nightingale as "what Amarok SHOULD have been."

Oh, and slight problem: my Windows box crashed hard, so I lost the SVG source. It'll take me a bit of effort to recreate it, and I'd rather not do all that work unless we end up using it for something.

Pen: Sucks to hear that... hopefully you didn't lose anything terribly important. I'm fortunate enough (knock on wood) that I have few important files on my computer, and what I do have tends to be backed up (either on another computer/hard-drive or hardcopy).

But, my apologies for the off topic post...

I've gotta say, I really like the mockup by LedZepp... Although, the notes are a bit hard to see (at least looking at the size of the image on my screen).

Actually, to touch on the topic of Nightingale's vs Amarok's logo... perhaps a mirror image of the suggestions we've had so far, with the head on the left, might be different enough? Even if someone mistakes the logo for Amarok's, the fact that it'd look reversed (up to the left, not up to the right) might give them pause enough to realize it's different.

How much longer do we have to finalize the designs?

I created none of these logos and normally I don't participate in logo contests etc. but Nightingale is dear to my heart. Therefore I've redrawn that draft in Inkscape which appeals to me most.
Normally I use Adobe Illustrator thus a few parts of my picture still look a bit tough but improving that is no big deal I think.

A few words to the Inkscape drafts (works in progress). These are rather illustrations than logos. Please don't use photos or similar elements in a logo. A real logo is easy, simple and recognizable. Because this is a piece of software, not a company we don't have to create a real logo. It can also be something more like a mascot but still not a photo collage. Please don't misunderstand me: I like your ideas but you shouldn't use external material like a photo (or Photoshop image) of the moon. Also backgrounds shouldn't be part of the logo.

But here's my draft. I know that a nightingale is brown, not blue but I think this blue fits much better (hope it's not too close to Thunderbird).

What do you think about this? Please be as critical as I am. Wink

For the bird : Heart

The only problem is that is difficult to see the Moon.
