Hi,

does anyone know why, when you download music to your computer and transfer it into the nightingale library - when you try to delete the original file it not longer lets you play the track in your library??

in Itunes if you put the track in that library you dont need to keep the original file

That is when you enable managing media in iTunes, which copies each file into the iTunes folder in your music folder. Nightingale used to have a similar feature, however it was broken and is disabled at the moment.

In other words, Nightingale saves where you stored the file you imported and will always play to play that exact file.

Thanks for your help with this.

i've used the add on from the songbird/nightingale website to detect duplicated songs in my library and to remove them.

if i remove the music from my library i guess as the feature you mentioned is disabled i'd actually need to go into my downloaded music and locate/delete all duplicate songs/albums???

would you know any other way to get around this??

thanks

If you download music through nightingale, you can specify a separate music download folder in the first preference panel (Tools|Preferences...). If you choose the folder you call "nightingale library" there, that should work.

To your other question: I have never used the duplicate detection stuff, but I'd assume that you can sanitize your library (not necessarily the downloads folder, as these two are not similar) automatically with them.

Yes, the extension does not delete your local files. There is an extension that adds a delete file option to the context menu: http://wiki.getnightingale.com/doku.php?..._from_disk

The downloads view in Nightingale is just a filtered view of your library, as far as I'm aware.

Downloading from the Internet is no something that is bound to a specific software. Nightingale supports downloads natively, or you could use a browser.
