Hello,

Ive been using songbird for a long time and it has met all my needs perfectly. I have no need to switch to another program but figured if it will no longer be updated I'd look into Nightingale.

The only thing I haven't been able to find info about is if nightingale like songbird can discover and play music located on my network mediacenter via DAAP?

Song bird was the only player I'd found that successfully could be linked to my network mediaserver.

Or if anyone has advice on how I can achieve this differently.

Do you still have the XPI of the extension? I guess it was one of those two extensions you used: http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/1353 or http://addons.songbirdnest.com/addon/1355 . You can also download the xpi from there.
You simply have to change a few things in the extensions metadata and you're good to g - you can still use it with nightingale. If you want to try it yourself, there's a guid there: http://wiki.getnightingale.com/doku.php?...ird_addons. Else just provide us a link, and we'll try to do the work for you!

What about all these mp3 players that are supported by songbird only? I have one: phillips gogear as4act. I saw in sourcecode on github some code related to that model 'as4act'. But nightingale 1.12.1 didn't recognize my device when i plugged it in. I don't use MS products, so your player is the only hope.

Philips bundled some device-specific add-ons with a custom version of Songbird. These add-ons are not opensourced, thus we cannot support them (due to legal reasons). If you have a copy of Phillips Songbird (not sure if there is one for Linux), you can try to patch the add-ons to work with Nightingale, there is a chance that it could work.

If the original Philips Songbird has not been available for Linux or you don't have a copy, management features for your specific device are not available in Nightingale. However, you can still use Nightingale with any mp3 player (except the ones manufactured by apple, as they want to enforce their iCrap and actively prevent third party software) by mounting it and using the synchronization feature. Your OS should mount it automatically (or you're a power user, disabled it and know how to mount Wink); however some players require you to enable MSC in the player's preferences or in a menu displaying when connecting to the PC. I cannot give you any more specific hints, as I cannot find the model you posted. If you have a link to the phillips site of that product?

Thank you for detailed answer. There is no linux version of songbird available. That's why i was looking to your project. It's a sad surprise for me that small music players industry is so unfree and hard-linked with proprietary software so much.
