You probably remember, that I once said I'd rewrite MediaFlow. Well, I'm still working on it. It just takes time... because the rewrite is really needed and more or less from the ground.

So I have a testing version. I it's already a3. The "basic" functionality" more or less exists. Please report every single bug you get, and what you'd like to see, EXCPET everything listed below:
  • Reflections - they'll come, in fact the code is written. It just doesn't work with the gecko nightingale uses at the moment.
  • Animations - I want to do them properly. but they'll come too
  • Fullscreen mode - Waiting for a better gecko for fullscreen access and I need to add a player control UI to fullscreen.
  • Context menu doesn't work
  • Covers are not always displayed (I have some image loading issues. Urgently need a debug build)
  • The scrollbar sometimes breaks everything with no reason.
  • Video thumbnails are planned. No idea how this is going to work
  • Updating a file doesn't work atm.
  • Sometimes (depending on the current selection) loading bugs out. Just have patience with Nightingale. It won't crash you Computer. Only nearly.
  • Multi selection doesn't work
  • If an album has multiple artists display a "Various Artists" string

I'm also interested in the performance it has for your library. And if it feels faster or slower than the previous MediaFlow. Thank you for your feedback!
You can download the .xpi from the Download link:
Download

You might have to uninstall previous versions of MediaFlow to avoid conflicts.

WARNING: This shouldn't break anything in your libary. It shouldn't break your profile, crash Nightingale or your computer. But it could. However I'd say it's very unlikely it will do any of those. However it WILL spam your error console. It might also put words into your error console which you don't want to see. Like "bullshit". Seriously! So you've been warned.

EDIT: Ninjaing a4 (better unknown artists)

A few things I noticed as I am first trying it, will post more later if I see more:

- If I try to play a song in the playlist by double clicking one of the displayed album arts ahead of the one currently playing, it "overshoots" and instead plays one of the songs that's even further into the playlist. It does work fine if I just use a single click to bring the album art of the song I want into the center of the display, and then double click it to play.

- As you said, using the horizontal scroll bar seems to mess things up. For me, if I drag the scroll bar to the left or right, the album arts on the right half disappear. If I scroll left and right with my mouse scroll wheel, all the album arts disappear, and sometimes my whole player will freeze as well.

- (Suggestion?) If you remove a song from a playlist, it's album art should be removed from the media flow display as well.

- When using with PartyRuffle, the order of album art seems to get jumbled up sometimes, and the album arts will randomly jump around sometimes as well (I think these same things happened with the original MediaFlow).

Thank you for your feedback!
So...
  • That's how double clicking is handled. To avoid it you can use the middle mouse button, but it's how it works: when you click twice, clicking once gets fired too.
  • That's exactly what it does. And I can't even track it a little bit. It seems to mess up the rendering of the whole canvas. And for you of the whole player. Because in theory the player still gets all your mouseclicks.
  • Well, this should work.... but apparently it doesn't. I'll write it on my buglist then... (This is probably a bug caused by some other very weird bug I get.)
  • Well, I'll have to speak to the author of PartyRuffle once my sorting and stuff works, if it still messes up.

So to the development: I am mostly stuck on weird bugs now. Like the one with the scrollbar. Just stuff, that can't happen with the code I wrote.

Cool, thanks for the tip on the middle mouse button. Good luck with the other bugs!

Sooo
I was coding the last few days and have got the a3 out. It is a lot faster (loading, responsiveness, drawing) and finally works with track rearranging and stuff. There are still some odd behaviors with Unknown Albums and Albums merged because of their Album Artist. For the list of known issues, please consider the first post in this thread.
