I've no idea what that all that un-jar and re-jar stuff means. I'm on Windows 7 and have managed to find a file called coppery.jar in C:\program Files (x86)\Nightingale\chrome\coppery.jar. It seems to be in a plain text format as I can open and edit in Notepad++.

The file is littered with rgb(000,000,000) type references. I can probably figure out what colour the existing numbers relate to by googleing them. I assume that the copper colour that you refer to has a rgb number so it would be good to know what it is to get started, If there isn't one defined then I'll guess or try and work it out by dumping the icon into Gimp or some other editor.
well that won't work - time to dig a bit deeper

@SeveW: It is not recommended to work on the jar stuff when creating own feathers, as it makes the stuff more complicated. When building nightingale, you can choose to get the feather built without jar creation. The jar only gives some more performance in release builds Wink

Also, jar can be unzipped, edited and then get rezipped, it consists of multiple files...

If you're on windows or have other reasons not to set up a build environment, you can also have a look at the source folder of the feather in our git repo: https://github.com/nightingale-media-pla...rs/coppery

Note that if you want to create your own feather, you should use the developer tools add-on. It makes is easy to create a feather - and it correctly links to the original feather so feature changes adapt correctly; you will not achieve this if you copy and publish the original feather.

If you somehow need a version of the feather without jars for testing, feel free to ask again and I'm sure someone with a build environment will build it for you (building os does not matter for the theme).

If you don't know what you're doing theming is very complicated and confusing. If you go to Google you can find sites that will tell you what rgb value a certain color has. I have the next few days off from work and am planning to do some theming on my own. I can help you write the theme, but you'd have to give me a rough idea of what you want the colors and icons to look like.
I don't think I will have time in the next few days but thank you for the offer. All I intended to do was take the existing coppery theme and change it from blue to coppery like the name suggests. I thought that that would be really simple but it turns out that it is probably harder than I thought so I might give it a miss for now?

I don't think it'd be super hard - if you're comfortable with html/css/photoshop, I think you can actually run with the jar unzipped, and then just edit the css, xul (xml) and images to fit the copper color - this has been on our todo list for a while...

If you get it done, we'll rename the current blue theme to "Blue Steel" or something ...lol...

I think you can actually just unzip that jar in the directory it's in, and edit in place - just remove the jar when you have that feather unzipped into it's own directory. You'll just have to restart ngale every time you want to preview your changes...

I've been trying to do some work on my own, but I'm having trouble deciding what shades of orange to use. In order for the new theme to resemble the current theme it needs to have various shades of orangy copper. I can't seem to decide exactly what shades to use for the images and the rgb colors. I've tried modifying the default feather to see what I can do. The Home, play/pause, shuffle, etc. buttons I probably can't modify on my own, but I can try. How does this pic look for the copper color?

Not bad...maybe do a bit of a gradient on the selector line thingies?

I'd like to have a gradient for the control pane too...even if it is just the grey.

Well, I'm not a designer, so I'm mostly just making changes and seeing how it looks; if the change looks good it stays, if not it goes. At first, I'm just going to switch from shades of blue to shades of orange. When I have a theme that I think looks acceptable (or at least passable), I'll post it here. I don't know enough photoshop to change the play/pause, next, reload, etc. icons so the theme will still look goofy and I will wait to post anything to the add-ons page.

I know how to use Gimp, but I am not good at it. I've managed to get a decent looking theme, using a coppery orange. I used a color wheel and my best judgement to determine what shades of orange to use to replace the shades of blue. Some things are going to be kept blue (html links, for example) because they look strange in orange.

That was exactly what I intended to do!Wink
BTW If you post the image files for the buttons here I can have a go at turning them coppery with Gimp if you like?
