Ok, so the development of the feather is going well, I was thinking we could release a "community preview" of Nightingale in mid-september.

So what consist of this "community preview" :

- Ship something usable by the community
- Get feedback on the feather
- Bundle add-ons

I was thinking of bundling FolderSync (to replace MSC/MTP closed source add-on), NewTab (to expose the web feature more) and also a new add-on not published yet by "rsjtdrjgfuzkfg" to allow creation of folders to organize playlists on the service pane.

For any other add-on request, please ask here.

We need to figure out, what add-on we will shipped directly with Nightingale.

Also I'm asking how we will handle localization (L10N) since we don't have server to host langpack yet. It's possible to ship builds for each language (like Mozilla do). OR we can set a page with all langpack and ability to download langpack on the first run and the ability to switch langpack in Nightingale (like Songbird but not using the same system).

To finish, a big plus would be Windows build. I think the project should deserve Windows and Mac too. rsjtdrjgfuzkfg is able to build on Windows.

LETS DO IT !

As always you can get in touch on forums or #nightingale on irc.mozilla.org

I think mediaflow & mlyrics should be shipped with Nightingale as they are installed by most people using Songbird.

I'm not sure it's worth making Windows or Mac builds in the first release because Songbird already serves these users so while Nightingale hasn't diverged too much from what Songbird provides there isn't much reason to spread resources too thin.

I second those add-on suggestions, but would like to add MMKeys to the list. Media keys are quite convenient, and I believe most laptops/keyboards have them these days. This is also what I am currently struggling with in Songbird.

(iPod support would be nice too, but I realize that is a pipedream)

True... Addons like MMKey (MMKeyFlip) are the somehow the most desired ones. Also Nightingale ability to communicate with the system to provide integration on basic level would be nice. Like with ubuntu sound menu, gnome music applet, so on and so forth.
I think that has now become a basic of music player, system integration.
One more feature I love about rhythmbox is the ability to search a song by just start typing (not in the search area). this won't filter any result, but take me directly to the matched song in the list. By pressing up and down arrow, one is able to navigate to matched results. it is another desirable feature.

MMKey will be refined soon, to allow both normal and flipped keys, and also to work with the new Gnome MMkeys behaviour.

That's already implemented, but you need to sort by the column you want to search in (so sorting by album and typing B would jump to the first artist starting with B). There is no visual indication (as an edit field appearing or something), through.

What he's talking about (I think) is being able to type in entire queries, and be able to do that, not just the first letter.

He's talking about the same system as GNOME Nautilus has now that allows you to type and it will try to find what you want as you type more. But I'm not sure how that works with multiple columns as in Nautilus it's just the filename.

... for me it works with queries, too, if you type fast enough. Maybe that's windows only?!

I don't know, haven't tried it...I'd say it'd be akin to the FF search functionality though...

Edit: yeah, no workie for me on Linux with 1.8 at least.
