Hm. Have you tried re-importing affected files? Album art is only read while importing iirc. If that doesn't help / you tried that already, this is weird... hm. I'm out of cheap options, though. If you had some c++ experience and time (!) you could try to step through the process in a debug build to see what causes the issue. Other than that, I'm clueless. Sorry.

That was it. As soon as I touched one of the mp3 files as a test, its cover showed up. I couldn't find a way in the gui to re-import everything, so I just deleted the whole profile, and that did the trick. Thanks for all the help, you're a very nice group.

For the reference: you didn't miss anything, re-importing is only possible by deleting all tracks and re-importing them. Of course, one can also switch to a new profile, but that also resets preferences, dynamic playlists and other information not dependent on the library content.
