Nightingale's synchronization feature is build around the idea that you keep a subset of your PC's library on your device. It is not able to handle your device's content as a separate library. Thus, it is not possible to delete all items on the device having a specific album directly.

If you use the feature as intended (that is, have separate playlists that get synced to the device containing all songs that are on the device and enable deletion of songs), you can simply remove the one album from the playlists that get synced to the device.

If we should ever build a real device add-on as Songbird had (they could not get migrated to Nightingale due to licensing issues) the feature you speak of would become available.

Could I, for example, delete the entire contents of the device (leaving it blank) and use the backup copy on my computer with Nightingale, removing anything that is related to a specific album, then synchronizing this modified copy on the blank device (or simply copying it on the device)? Smile

Could you give me an example of such an existing add-on (I do not know very well this stuff Blush )? Smile

The extensions rsjtdrjgfuzkfg mentioned were called "MSC device support" and "MTP device support". So one for mass storage (msc) devices, what our synchronization feature kind of does, just two way and a lot more complex, and one for devices only supporting the media transfer protocol (like most androids these days). I do not know of any public copy of those extension still being available anywhere, so I doubt this information is actually useful.

You can still look at their addons.songbirdnest.com pages in the web archive:
  • MTP Device Support on web.archive.org
  • MSC Device Support on web.archive.org
They also used to have an iPod Device Support equivalent, but that was eventually discontinued.

Ok, I've searched the web for "MSC device support" extension, but I've not found it Sad

What can you tell me about the first question I asked? Smile

If I understood you correctly, then yes, that would work (although I personally would not like having two profiles). To make sure we speak of the same thing, that is:
1. Backup your device to your hard disk
2. Create a new, clean Nightingale profile and import the backup
3. Do some management in Nightingale (removing an album, etc)
4. Use the synchronization feature to sync with the Device, deleting its previous content completely

For new changes, start Nightingale with the new profile and do your changes, then use the synchronization feature again.

I consider having two profiles (one for the device and one for the "regular" library) as not that easy to handle, but that is of course up to you.
