I'm using the latest nightly from the Ubuntu repositories, 1.12.1-0~nightly-13104~ubuntu13.04.1 .

I'm getting frequent crashes, after which Nightingale cannot be relaunched. From the command line:

Code:
$ nightingale

(process:4626): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion `sys_page_size == 0' failed
** Message: Unity Integration: loading
** Message: Unity Integration: checking for unity components
*** stack smashing detected ***: ././nightingale-bin terminated
Aborted (core dumped)

I tried starting in safe mode which at least allowed me to launch nightingale, although I couldn't play anything.
Code:
$ /usr/share/nightingale/nightingale-bin -safe-mode

(process:4402): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion `sys_page_size == 0' failed
this.m_addToDevice is null in SBPlaylistCommand_AddToDevice ?!!

(process:4402): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion `sys_page_size == 0' failed

I tried disabling add-ons one-by-one, but at the end, with no add-ons installed, I still could not start nightingale. The only fix I've found to restart the computer.

==EDIT==
This is the output after restarting the computer and successful launching of Nightingale.
Code:
$ nightingale

(process:3071): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion `sys_page_size == 0' failed

(process:3071): GLib-CRITICAL **: g_slice_set_config: assertion `sys_page_size == 0' failed
** Message: Unity Integration: loading
** Message: Unity Integration: checking for unity components
this.m_addToDevice is null in SBPlaylistCommand_AddToDevice ?!!

(nightingale-bin:3071): libunity-CRITICAL **: unity_music_player_unexport: assertion `self != NULL' failed
Hence, I presume that only the last two lines of my initial paste are diagnostic. (I'm not sure where the core is dumped.)

I've only tried Nightingale inside Unity a few times and Unity seemed to cause a lot more issues than other DE's. Crashes being one of them. I don't know if those issues still exist in Unity, but my guess is that Unity is causing Nightingale to crash on you. I don't know anything about Unity, so I wouldn't know how to fix the problem.

Oops, sorry, I forgot to mention that I'm using KDE (Kubuntu 13.04), not Unity. In any case, since I get the Unity error messages even when Nightingale launches properly, this might suggest that they are unrelated.

Thank you for the logs! There is a built in extension dealing with Unity that doesn't show up under the options, but that is what's crashing. From the last log, I think I see the problem and will fix it right now.

Does this extension activate even if I'm not using Unity?

The extension is integrated in the build. If you set the flag to build libnotify/unity (they are in one chunk in the current release) you get the unity integration too.

[EDIT]since you use the ppa you get such a build, as Ubuntu normally has unity.

It seems the fix is already in our trunk! So the next automated build should fix this crash![/EDIT]

Great! Thanks for that. It was an intermittent problem, so if I don't reply again, you can assume it hasn't crashed again for me. Thanks again!

Hmmm… I'm still getting the same problem with the latest nightly (1.12.1-0~nightly-13108~ubuntu13.04.1).

I'd guess that unity is probably enabled, then...not 100% sure but you may be able to just remove that xpi from the subdirectory in the root of the application directory.

I'm not sure what or where that xpi is.
Code:
$ dpkg -L nightingale|grep xpi
/usr/share/nightingale/addons/concerts-1.1.8pre+dev-201309160559-linux-x86_64.xpi
/usr/share/nightingale/addons/shoutcast-radio-1.0.10pre+dev-201309160559.xpi
/usr/share/nightingale/addons/mashTape-1.1.11pre+dev-201309160559.xpi
/usr/share/nightingale/addons/albumartlastfm-0.1.9pre+dev-201309160559.xpi
/usr/share/nightingale/addons/audioscrobbler-1.0.10pre+dev-201309160559.xpi
/usr/share/nightingale/xulrunner/greprefs/xpinstall.js
/usr/share/nightingale/xulrunner/xpidl

Is it a hardcoded xpi? There is no mention of it in the add-ons window within Nightingale itself.
