I also use FLAC. So is this problem fixed in the current version? I have to watch my folders as I am constantly adding new music.

I haven't tried this myself lately, one of my peevs though is the lack of FLAC albumart support. I started a patch and unsuccessfully got it working - it just built...
One of our wiser devs (despite the fact I resurrected this project, johnmurrayvi is king of code around here) is looking at it eventually.

The lack of FLAC artwork is also one of my complaints. Please let me know when that patch and the metadata edit patch are in the nightly for Mac and I will try Nightingale again. I'm currently using the last version of Songbird.

Same problem here. Nightingale v1.12.1, Build 2454, on Mac OS X 10.9.2. Entire library is FLAC. For me I noticed it when attempting to update genre metadata. A few seconds after a change the tags revert to their original state. Turning off the Watch Folder feature is kind of counterintuitive to maintaining a dynamic library. I too am going back to Songbird at least until this gets remedied in a future release.
FWIW I have no problem viewing the artwork associated with these files (though I don't embed images, I save covers separately in the album folders).

@MediumRare I'm hopefully going to look more into soon. I briefly started some work on it a couple weeks ago, but got caught up with finals and moving.
@steagle From your comment about the tags reverting, it sounds like the metadata isn't being written to the file? Also, are you able to view the album art in Nightingale? Or in a different application?

Yes that's what it looks like. I have also gotten error messages such as "Could not write metadata to file" when trying to change other fields (can't remember which). When trying to change genres there is no error message, you just see the genre instantly return to its original state.
I can view album art fine as long as I have a "cover.jpg" included in the album folder. I personally don't care much about embedded art as long as this folder-based feature works, which it does. |
