As it was in the General Discussion Area and it pertains more to the help desk, I'm reposting the following post:
http://forum.getnightingale.com/thread-491.html
We've had three reports from people with Kubuntu 10.4, Ubuntu 11.10 [my OS] and Ubuntu 12.04 where the Songbird does not see mp3 files when it scans and is unable to play OGG files.
When we try to get OGG files, we get the following errors:
(nightingale-bin:11452): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_object_ref: assertion `object != NULL' failed
(nightingale-bin:11452): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_set: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
(nightingale-bin:11452): GStreamer-CRITICAL **: gst_bin_add: assertion `GST_IS_ELEMENT (element)' failed
We all have gstreamer installed by default with the K/Ubuntu distro.
Here is a listing of all the gstreamer packages that come with
Ubuntu 11.10: http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywor...ection=all
Ubuntu 10.04 (should be the same as Kubuntu 10.04): http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywor...ection=all
Ubuntu 12.04: http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywor...ection=all
I'm thinking that there might be a descrepency between the packages, libraries or install locations of gstreamer that was used in the devellopment of Nightingale and the packages, libraries and install locations that Ubuntu have setup.
I'm putting up a poll on this thread where people with Ubuntu can confirm whether they are having this problem with nightingale or not.
