I think that the idea of having 3 birds singing on the splash screen would be great! Of course, the icon would look funny with that, so we'd probably have to do just one for the icon.

HolyPhoenix: I think number 19, as well as a couple others, are actually based off a photo of a Nightingale that's been run through a graphics program, although I can understand that it looks like clip-art. Still, does your girlfriend have any suggestions on what makes a good logo? Any suggestions on what to do if we start from scratch, or any way we could modify some of the existing suggestions to make them more "professional"? You mentioned she likes 22, but that it has too much detail in it... any way to make it work?

I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but a couple suggestions would be nice, especially if she does this for a living. It's unfortunately easy to comment on what's wrong, but not so on how to "fix" it...

Most of the best "logos" are simple. At the same time, however, I think we're looking for a "face" for nightingale. I would imagine that Firefox would be considered a bad logo (too complex, too many colors, not recognizable as a silhouette, etc.) but it's effective for burning (sorry for the pun) the idea of the program into your mind. When you see a Firefox, you know what it represents.

Perhaps we need a simple "logo" and a complex "face" for our program. The "face" could easily be included on the splash screen and website, at any rate.

I like #7. #15 is good too.

I think this thread should be closed & a "round 2" thread be opened that does not have the designs with no votes in it.

Anyone oppose?

This is a good idea but this "round 2" should contain "final logos", i.e. there should be a consensus for the logos which will be in the poll (cf. the 3 birds of #19).

Matt, that's a good idea, and I agree with Falcon about trying to get some "finalized" designs and using those... I mean, we can go back and forth on designs and beat this thing to death, but unless we start finalizing some things we're never going to get any further with the project.

absolutely. I'll close this thread, create a new one informing everybody, then once we've got the final designs, I start the round 2 poll.
