Not to be that guy, but it would be nice to be posted on how things are going re. Nightingale development. I mean, the last blog post was over a month ago now. How is the next release shaping up?
I know exactly how you feel. And what you want to know. but since I'm only a poor web dev, which is rewriting an addon (maybe I'll finish this year) and randomly got the forum admin state, I can't blog etc.
I don't like to admit it: but the last commit from our dev team is long ago. I know there is some coding not pushed to the repo. So maybe there is something going on. But I don't see the excepted fixes etc. being pushed.
Here is the milestone over at github: https://github.com/nightingale-media-pla...state=open

The last commit from our side was removing the ASK Toolbar installer from the ngale windows installer, since songbird added one to the Songbird installer (yes, really!).
I think part of the problem is that everyone here has a full time job that they have to work, and in my case I just recently switched to Computer Science as my major, so my coding skills aren't good enough to help. I would assume that CD ripping and cloud integration would be the main things that need to be done for the next release.

Yeah, Songbird has gotten ridiculous since their involvement with Philips and drop of Linux support. Other than the maaaajor speedup in 1.9 their priorities have been uttter shite IMO. Sad really--it had so much potential.

The latest release of Nightingale is great overall for the native borders, among other things, but I worry that there are not enough developers volunteering their time to see consistent release cycles.

For me, it would be wonderful to have a music-only Windows alternative to Winamp, with no extra gimmicks (other than the browser, which is soooo incredibly useful, despite what the naysayers say.)

Speaking on the roadmap, moving to the Gecko 6 will be a major leap forward though, for sure, not only for the performance, but the possibility for feature/UI improvements (like play/pause/previous/next buttons on the taskbar thumbnail, which most players have had for years now).

Codewise, It really seems to me like squashing bugs and performance improvements are what Nightingale needs the most... although I'm sure others would disagree.

For sure. I would love to help too, but seeing as my programming ability is laughably basic, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot I can do. I would love to get into it though, maybe starting with addon development? I was thinking I that it wouldn't be too hard to take this one (which I use all the time) and simply change the search string to Songmeanings if I ever get around to it. Then I'd have a button for that as well.
Well, GeekShadow needs to chime in too, but here's where we're at:

Fixing the startup bug where the initial screen is whited out and the library tab isn't selected
Other bugs
Branding/improvements

That said, we're sort of waiting on things like Podcast support, TagNinja, and some other addons to get completed before we move forward, to make sure we have those working for 1.11.1 - from there we'll move on to more code related changes, but we don't want to "pull the mat" so to speak out from under our addon developers (COMeTE and other people) before the at least have working addons ready to go fro 1.11.1.
There's some development going on at featherweight as well, I hope to complete the modelling stuff in a reasonable amount of time. For me I'd also say that there is a need for bug squash - more than for cloud integration. The major plan is gecko 6, which will be great once finished I guess.
Probably I can contribute some more again in some weeks.

If there is a need for that, I might find some time for a blog post this weekend.
